How long have I been asleep?
What happened after I passed out?
Is Fury mad at me?
Rayna had no idea if he would be pissed at her for pulling the MacGyver shit she’d pulled, but to hell with him if he was- she’d saved all their lives.
And she’d do it again, too, even if it landed her in the same bed with the same bullet hole tucked under her belly button.
Rayna ran a hand through Fury’s dark hair, caressing his cheek as she did so.
He looked so peaceful she didn’t want to wake him, but she was so fucking happy to see him there beside her.
She’d wondered before they were ambushed by the Blazin’ Eagles if he would change his mind about being with her after the night they’d spent together, but it was obvious he hadn’t left her side.
He had a bag tucked in the corner of the room, and a pile of his clothes were piled up next to the TV. A pair of his boots were near the bedroom door.
Rayna felt a rush of emotion at the idea of her never being able to see him again, so she lifted one of his hands into her own and kissed the back of it.
She pressed the rough skin of his palm against her cheek as the tears welled up in her eyes and cascaded down her cheeks, the saltiness of them coating her tongue.
Fury remained asleep, though- and for some reason this alarmed Rayna- probably because she couldn’t contain the sound of her sobs any longer, and she was sure it would have awoken him.
She checked to make sure he was still breathing, and he was, but even after she said his name, he didn’t stir.
“Isn’t this sweet? Don’t worry, baby. He’ll be out for a while.”
Rayna flinched at the sound of Arrow’s voice, his sneer sending a shiver down her spine.
She gripped Fury’s hand tightly in hers as Arrow emerged completely from the shadows.
“I didn’t know how long I was going to have to wait for you to wake up, so I drugged Fury’s dinner. Took a while to kick in, but no worries. He’s down for the count now,” Arrow said as he neared her.
Rayna watched, horrified, as Arrow neared her with a gun in his hand.
Fear, bitter and acrid, crawled up the back of her throat as he waved it in her direction.
She jerked, cried out- her pain meds were obviously wearing off, but she was determined not to let him win.
“You’re the one who set us up?,” Rayna asked as she tried to catch her breath.
She had a stitch in her side already, but with Fury effectively useless beside her, there was no time to dwell on the fact that she was in pain.
That she was completely alone.
“Sorry, Rayna. But I think you have something I want, and it wasn’t at your house.”
Rayna’s eyes narrowed as she turned in her bed to face him, only to be met by the barrel of a gun in her face.
Her blue eyes almost crossed, he was so close to her.
“You went to my house? Looking for what?!,” Rayna gasped as he pressed the muzzle of the gun against the corner of her mouth.
“Your daddy’s little black book is worth a lot of money, bitch, and I want my cut.”
Daddy’s little black book?
How the fuck does he even know about that?
Rayna tried not to give Arrow any indication that she knew what he was talking about as she remembered tucking the little black book into her satchel.
Which was, unfortunately, sitting right at the edge of her bed.
“Look, I may have traveled with my father sometimes, but I don’t know anything about his business! He would never share that with me,” Rayna lied.
Arrow’s eyes snapped to Fury.
“You willing to lie to my face with this gun pointed at your head, little girl?”
Rayna knew that if she wasn’t injured she could have taken Arrow down herself, gun be damned.
Now?
Now she had no choice but to look the fucker in the eye while he held her hostage.
In her own fucking clubhouse!
Was it hers yet?
Or…?
Arrow interrupted her thoughts when he cleared his throat loudly.
“But, what if I aim it at his head?”
To her horror, Rayna watched as Arrow swung his arm around and pointed the gun at Fury’s head.
Fury had no idea what was happening, and she wished more than anything, that Fury was anywhere but next to her.
Rayna struggled to think of any possible solution that wouldn't end with her and Fury’s brains sprayed all over her bedroom.
“I told you, I don’t have any idea what you're talking about. Why would my dad keep a little black book, Arrow? He knew his contact.”
Arrow’s gaze wavered as he glanced at her and then at Fury.
“The Blazin’ Eagles told me there’s a fuckin’ book! I know you’re lying to me, Rayna. That book is gonna make me rich!”
Rayna choked out a laugh.
“Is that what they told you? That they would share their profits with you? That’s crazy!”
Arrow jerked the gun back to her and shook his head.
“Don’t fuckin’ laugh at me! Damn it, tell me where it is!”
Rayna flinched, falling back against her bed.
She was shaking now, because it was obvious that the Blazin’ Eagles had somehow convinced Arrow to do their dirty work in exchange for her father’s gun contact information, and Arrow looked like he’d do anything to get his hands on it.
Including kill an original patch member and his old lady in their own fucking clubhouse while wearing their club’s colors…
Treason at it’s finest.
“Just relax, Arrow. If you shoot me now, every member of the club will be in here in two seconds flat. They’ll kill you before you get another round out of the chamber,” Rayna reasoned.
Arrow laughed, his brown eyes crinkling at the corners, telling her that he was genuinely amused.
“You think he's the only one knocked out? I feed the entire damn club everyday, Rayna. No one would ever question taking a drink, a meal, anything from me! Every member of this club is passed the fuck out, just like your old man. Now give me the book!”
Rayna’s eyes fell back to Fury, and she saw something glint against his hip.
Fuck, his gun!
Suddenly hopeful, she tried to steady her shaking hands as she looked back up at Arrow.
Rayan knew that if she could get her hands on it, she would probably only get one shot, so she knew her aim had to be true.
Our lives depend on it.
But, when she looked at Fury again, she saw his eyes flutter closed immediately.
He’s awake!
Fury is awake!
The light at the end of her tunnel became blinding as she watched him hold out one tanned finger discreetly.
Her panic lessened because she knew he wouldn't let anything happen to her.
Fury would keep her safe, and for once, she wouldn't have to save herself.
“Listen, Arrow, if I were you, I would tuck that little pop gun back into your waistband and high tail it out of here.”
Rayna’s voice sounded confident, assured, everything she wasn’t on the inside.
His face fell, confusion lining his dark irises.
“What? Listen, bitch, I want that book! And you’re gonna give it to me!”
He screamed this, a trail of spit sticking to his cheek as he shook the gun right at her.
She held her hands up beside her head, feigning surrender.
“If I give it to you, they’ll kill me anyways. Why would I give you my only leverage?,” Rayna asked.
She saw Fury’s fingers twitch and knew she had to move, that she had to draw Arrow’s attention away from the both of them. Otherwise Arrow would see Fury was awake, and with the way Arrow was acting, he was likely to kill Fury immediately despite the consequences glaring him right in the face.
He obviously hadn’t realized that if he killed Rayna or Fury, he was dead, and if he wen
t back to the Blazin’ Eagles, he was also…dead.
They would never let him walk away with any money they could squander between themselves.
“Okay, if you wanna do it that way. I’ll just take you with me and let the Blazin’ Eagles get the info out of you. They’re real excited to see you anyways,” Arrow hissed as he tucked his gun into the back of his jeans.
Bingo, buddy!
Fury rose to his feet instantly, his large hands tugging Arrow directly against his chest.
Arrow wasn’t as tall as Fury, and the weight difference between them was glaringly obvious when Fury lifted him into the air by his neck.
“You think you’re just gonna come in here and drug me? My brothers? You think you’re gonna blow my old lady to fuckin’ bits right next to me, asshole?”
His words were nothing but a menacing snarl, and that’s how Rayna knew Fury was livid.
She expected him to scream, to lose his cool, to go absolutely crazy, but he didn’t.
He only shook Arrow harder, his black eyes narrowed in disgust.
“Worked out for the most part, didn’t it?,” Arrow gasped.
Fury tossed Arrow to the ground and pulled his gun out, aiming it at Arrow’s scrambling knees.
All Rayna heard was the loud bang! as Fury fired, hitting Arrow directly in the ankle.
“Shit, you shouldn't have moved you little weasel. I was aiming for your knee,” Fury spat as he tucked the gun into his waistband again.
He glanced at Rayna, his dark eyes saying more than his mouth could at that moment.
I’m gonna handle this for you.
I’d do anything for you.
I love you.
Arrow’s howls broke the spell as he kicked and rolled, his blood marking the tile beneath him.
“You’ll be sorry, you Deadly fuck! The Blazin’ Eagles are gonna get their hands on all of you, just wait!”
Fury lifted Arrow easily, gripping him under his arm pit as he hauled him to his feet.
Arrow struggled to put weight on his injured leg, so Fury kicked him right in the ankle that was bleeding all over the floor.
“Walk, fucker! I’m gonna hang your ass up in the garage myself, and then I’m gonna wake my brothers, and we’re all gonna take turns tearin’ you to pieces,” Fury said roughly.
Rayna knew she was hooked up to too many wires to move on her own.
“I need your phone to call Laura, Fury.”
Without hesitation, he pulled it from his front pocket and tossed it to her.
She caught it, instantly searching for her number, but her fingers were shaking too badly to keep a good grip on the small phone.
“Just press the number four, baby. I’ll be right back.”
Rayna didn't want him to fucking leave, but she knew that whatever happened with Arrow and the Blazin’ Eagles from here on out would be classified as club business.
Club business?
Fuck, that idiot almost killed me.
Rayna was gasping as she dialed Laura’s number and waited impatiently to hear her husky voice on the other end of the line.
“Hello?”
“Laura, it’s Rayna. We need you.”
“Don’t move from that bed. I’ll be right there.”
“Okay, see you soon.”
The click in Rayna’s ear told her Laura had already hung up, so she too hung up before she set the phone down.
She caught a glimpse through her bedroom window of Fury dragging Arrow’s limp body into the garage and wondered what had happened in the five minutes they were alone together that had Arrow slumped over like a sack of flour.
What had happened in the last five minutes?
Holy shit, I almost died…again.
Rayna clutched the bedsheets between her fingers.
Her heart was ready to burst right through her ribcage, the adrenaline in her system was so strong.
She’d have never pegged Arrow as the rat- Torch, maybe, but not Arrow.
He’d been so kind to her, so friendly, but Rayna supposed that was all to get closer to her so he could find the damn book.
That may be the case, but she still had no idea how he even knew about the stupid book.
Rayna’s brain was still trying to work out just what exactly the Blazin’ Eagles were trying to accomplish.
She’d been with them for months and had never revealed any details about the book itself or the fact that it existed- they’d just used and abused her under the assumption that it did.
Rayna figured the easiest way to gain any information on her now would be to go through someone in this clubhouse- the members of the Seven Deadlies were the only people who knew she was still alive- so in that respect, they’d been smart.
But, she still had a hundred questions swirling around in her head.
Why did they wait so long to send someone after me?
Was Torch in on it, too?
Why not just come and get it themselves?
Rayna’s head was spinning by the time Fury made his way back into her room, and she didn’t hesitate to throw herself into his arms.
“I swear to God, it took everything in my power not to rush that,” Fury whispered into her hair.
She was shaking.
She was needy.
Rayna was falling apart.
Rayna was ready to dissolve entirely under his touch-
She cried against his shoulder, hard sobs racking her body, as the adrenaline faded from her system.
“It’s okay, you’re safe. I wasn’t ever going to let anything happen to you,” Fury said softly.
“You knew?”
The question came out sounding like an accusation, but she couldn’t help it.
“The whole club knew there was a rat, but me and Ox decided to pretend like every patch was a suspect. We had to flush out the real culprit,” Fury said as he pulled back far enough so he could see into her beautiful eyes.
“You used me as bait?”
Rayna couldn’t keep the hurt from her voice.
“Kind of, but I haven't left your side since we came to that decision, so does it still count?”
Rayna swore and shook her head as she pressed her mouth to his, melting into his hold.
“You shouldn’t be up like this, you’re gonna hurt yourself,” Fury murmured against her lips.
Rayna was up on her knees, her arms wrapped around his neck.
“I’ve almost kicked the bucket twice in the last twenty-four hours. I’ll do whatever the fuck I want, especially hold you,” She argued.
Fury’s mouth quirked, and she ran her hands along his smooth(er) jaw.
“You shaved your beard.”
“Yeah, it was getting out of control…do you like it?”
Rayna kissed his mouth again, her tongue touching his, her lips soft and open…
“Fuck, we have to stop. I’ve been cravin’ that tight body of yours ever since we escaped Myrtle, and I don’t want to hurt you. Is Laura on her way?”
Rayna nodded.
“Good. Wait in here for her. I’m gonna go find Ox, see what the fuck is goin’ on. You and I have shit to talk about, so I’ll be back later.”
Fury wiped her tears from her cheeks.
Rayna frowned, but he just pressed his mouth to hers again before he left her kneeling in her rumpled bed, her brain three seconds away from short-circuiting.
Chapter Nineteen
Fury’s fingers were bloody as he lit a cigarette.
The filter stuck between his digits easily.
“You done in there?,” Ox called.
Fury nodded, his eyes on his phone.
He’d been with Arrow for hours, and he still hadn’t managed to work out all of his anger.
“For now, yeah. Got some juicy gossip to start with. How’s Rayna?”
Ox glanced back at the clubhouse and shrugged.
“Good as she can be, I guess. Laura is with her. Gave her something to calm her down.”
Fury wanted t
o go to her, to calm her down himself, to offer her everything, but he had to handle business first.
“Apparently the Blazin’ Eagles found the burner phone Rayna used to call you the night I picked her up. That's how they figured out where she was. They’ve known she was here for a while, but they didn’t want the hell of us and our allies to rain down on them all at once. They cornered Arrow in town and offered him money if he got Jonathan Claire’s little black book,” Fury said.
He inhaled deeply, appreciating the rich nicotine that flooded his system.
Ox looked at him questioningly.
“Apparently, Jonathan had a book that held all of his gun contacts and their info in it. We all know he was secretive about that, so I can understand why someone on the street would want it. Jon didn’t take any partners, so the Blazin’ Eagles figured they’d make a lot of fuckin’ money,” Fury said as he dropped his cigarette onto the ground and stepped on it.
Ox swore again as he ran a hand through his hair.
“How bad is he?,” He asked as he nodded towards the garage.
Fury shrugged.
“He’ll be worse when Limit gets out here.”
Laura came towards them, her green eyes stormy.
She held up a palm before Fury could assault her with any questions.
“She’s doing fine, before you ask me. She’s resting. I gave her the go ahead to eat normal fool and I removed her catheter. Her wound is healing up nicely, Fury. She should be just fine. Green is sitting with her at the moment, so who knows what he’s got her watching,” Laura said tiredly.
Probably more penile transplant videos or rom-coms…
Ox kissed her temple affectionately and pointed towards the clubhouse.
“Why don’t you head inside, catch some sleep? You can use my room.”
She smiled.
“Thanks.”
Fury eyed Ox suspiciously as he watched Laura walk back into the clubhouse.
“You’re letting her use your room? Jesus, you got a hard on for Laura all of a sudden?”
Ox glared at him over his shoulder.
“She’s been here nonstop the last couple of days. She does have a normal job outside of her gig with us, ya know. She looks worn out, she needs sleep.”
Fury grunted a response, his shoulders sagging.
“I’m sure Rider has a location on Jaden and Haze, but Arrow swears he doesn't know what their back up plan is. He swears he didn't give them the access key code to the gate, but I don't know if I believe him. I think he’s lying.”
